KONNICHIWA! Hello!

Main Line Bead Society expands your horizons! Please join us for a 2-part class in August and September to learn (or brush up on) a traditional Japanese art form, Kumihimo. We will create this beautiful Color Block Kumihimo necklace with cords, seed beads, magatamas, and fire-polished beads.
Kumihimo translates to “gathered threads.” In this class we will learn to interlace reels of cords on a special circular loom to create a braid, adding beads along the way to create a truly unique piece. Traditionally, these braids were strong and created a powerful grip that held the scabbards of swords tightly to the Samurai warriors.
To start, you will need a few basic materials. Blue Santa Beads in Media will have everything you need. The pattern will have complete details.
- A Kumihimo disc
- 8 Kumihimo bobbins and counter weight
- S-Lon/C-Lon nylon cord
- Beads, the size, type, and amount listed in the pattern
- Scissors
- Bead mat
- Color Block necklace pattern (received with paid registration)
You will be emailed a PDF of the pattern with your paid registration. Your registration includes the pattern and the 2-part class on August 20 and September 17, 2024. The first class will include setting up your Kumihimo disk and loading beads onto the cords. The second class will include the braiding and finishing of your piece.
The cost of both classes is $30.00, paid with your August class registration.
We will also be providing pizza at the meeting! You just need to bring along your own beverage. It should be a fun evening of beading, food, and friendship!
The meeting will be held (please note our new meeting location):
6:45 - 8:45 pm, August 20, 2024
Reformation Lutheran Church, 102 W Rose Tree Road, Media, PA
