3" Round Needle Felting Landscape Background

Are you curious how to create a wool landscape background for your bead embroidery? Come and learn with Marsha Neal Studio how to needle felt colorful wool roving in thin layers onto a wool prefelt base that will fill these two 3” wooden embroidery hoops. We will spend most of our time blending wool, splitting wool, and felting to create a background layer for you to bead on.

Each participant will receive and take home:

(1) Foam Felting Surface, (2) 38 ga felting needles, (2) Wool Prefelt 5” square pieces of Sarafina Flat Mat 2, Handful of Sarafina Top Coats in various colors (themes are summer landscape and underwater), (2) 3” Round Wooden Embroidery Hoops.

The cost for the project and kit elements noted above is $30, and Marsha requires a minimum of 8 participants to be able to do the project with us. She is also bringing a trunk show with needle felting supplies and a selection of top coat wool colors for members to shop during her visit. For more items, please shop through Sarafina directly at Sarafina Fiber Art Website.

Also, if you happen to have a green punch tool or pink pen tool (or any other multi-needle tool) you should bring that with you to speed up your felting time.

Marsha will discuss how she used Clear Fireline and a size 10 beading needle to add beads to the wool background. The back is unfinished and we will discuss different ways for you to cover it up once your beadwork is complete.

If you finish your felting quickly, you may want to begin to add beads from your bead stash onto your piece. If so, please bring the following: Scissors, beading needle & thread. Suggested beads (Round 6’s, 8’s, 11’s, Magatamas or drops, tubes, twisted tubes, unique focals, etc). Don’t forget your bead work surface, reading glasses, and a portable task light if that helps.

Here are the class samples with beads added:
