January Member Zoom Meeting and Show & Tell

  • Tuesday, January 19, 2021
  • 7:00 PM - 9:00 PM (UTC)
  • ZOOM

Registration is closed

Happy New Year! Most of us are glad to see 2020 out the door and are hopeful that 2021 will bring good health and blessings. As I saw on one Facebook post, “In 2021, live like someone left the gate open!”

Until that time, we are going to try something many other groups are doing right now: a Zoom meeting! For our January member meeting, we will have a Zoom meeting where members can show and tell what they’ve been creating, or just chat and catch up with each other. If you’re like many of us, you are missing your friends and family, and this is the next best thing to in-person gatherings. And if there’s enough interest, we will have a Zoom beading class in February. There will be no charge for either meeting.

Below is the information for the January meeting. You will also need to install Zoom on your device (computer, tablet, or phone) beforehand, the easy instructions for which are included below. We hope to “see” you then! Until then, stay safe and bead on!

For the time being, until we are comfortable gathering in person again, we will be having our monthly meetings and classes via Zoom. Each month, you will get an email with the same link to the monthly meeting.

How To Prepare For A Zoom Meeting:

We recommend members set up Zoom on your computer or mobile device in advance of a meeting. It is best to use Zoom on your device that has the largest screen. There is no cost to participate in Zoom meetings.

To set up Zoom on your computer, go to https://zoom.us/downloadDownload the Zoom Client for Meetingsand install it. For a mobile device, download and install Zoom from your device's app store.

If the installation gives you an opportunity to test audio, do that test. It will check your speaker (so you can hear others) and your microphone (so others can hear you). If you have a problem, it would most likely be with the microphone on a computer. In that case you might need to go into your computer settings to authorize use of the microphone. After Zoom is installed, you can run a test, including audio, by clicking on https://zoom.us/test.

Zoom meeting announcements will be sent out to MLBS members by email. Those announcements will include a link to click to join the meeting at its scheduled time. Hosts usually start meetings 5 to 10 minutes in advance of the scheduled time in order to give everyone time to join.

Clicking the link in the announcement email should start Zoom on your device if you have already installed Zoom. If you land on a page that suggests you download Zoom (which you have already done), look for the link on that page that says to launch an already installed version. You may then be asked to give a name that will identify you to others in the meeting. When asked, click "Join with Video". Then click to "Join with Computer Audio". Usually there will be a link for you to do an audio test. (Do that test if you haven't done one previously.)

If you have not set up Zoom ahead of time, you will be prompted to do so when clicking on a meeting link for the first time. You will receive instructions to download Zoom, install it, and join the meeting. But this can take some time, especially if you are using an older computer, or if your privacy settings are so tight that you have to jump through some hoops to allow the installation to take place. So, it is much better to set up Zoom in advance and we encourage you to please do so.
