October Monthly Meeting

Members-Only Fall Event!!!  By the time our October meeting rolls around, Bead Hop will be over for this year.  Right now, we're all having fun planning our itineraries around special events and classes and touring the area, visiting our favorite bead haunts, getting acquainted with some new shops, and participating in classes and events. By the time we're done, our gas tanks will be empty, our feet will be tired from all that walking, and some or all of us will be broke from visiting all those great shops and using our discount coupons to buy all those sparkly goodies. Fear not, or maybe you should be a little fearful, because our October meeting is going to have a Halloween/Fall Harvest theme and is designed to be pure fun and relaxation! 

We do have one major business item we will need to complete before we start to celebrate.  At the beginning of the meeting, we will be holding our election for the MLBS Board Treasurer.  We're holding the election in October to give Cynthia and our new Treasurer time to transition the role before the new Treasurer takes over on January 1, 2020.  So come to cast your vote, and then join in the festivities!

We're shaking things up a little and making this a members-only meeting/event with an even more social tone than usual. It'll be a great opportunity to share your Bead Hop experiences and just have fun chatting with your fellow members. And great news! No shushing because we can't hear the teacher. Have at it! Talk away and enjoy the friendship and camaraderie of your fellow bead lovers. Get better acquainted with members you might not know. Here's what we have planned to make this meeting fun and relaxing for you.

First, we'll have a simple self-directed project that everyone can complete at the meeting.  And the best news is that your kit is free courtesy of MLBS. (Thank you for your survey feedback.  We hope to be able to do more things like this in the future, where some projects are heavily subsidized by MLBS , or in some cases are free, so everyone can play without always having to pay!)  You can choose your kit when you sign in at the meeting and then proceed to have fun creating with your bead buddies.

BUT (there's always a "but" to freebies, isn't there?), you need to wear some form of crazy Halloween/fall-themed head gear to the meeting....a decorated head band, a crazy "fascinator," a fun hat, decorated hair clip....you get the idea. We'll be having a crazy head gear contest, and during the meeting members will vote on four categories...funniest, most creative/original, prettiest, and spookiest. There will be a prize awarded for each category.

Last, but not least, check your purses, wallets, and pockets and shake your piggy banks for the few dollars you might have left after Bead Hop. We are graciously providing you with an outlet to spend your hard-earned dollars and score some great deals in the process!  We'll be running a silent auction during the meeting.  All of those "like new" books from our library (there are some excellent, now-out-of-print editions in that collection), unused kits donated by shops and members, beads, findings, strands, tools, and other beading paraphernalia will be up for grabs. So bring whatever cash you have (it'll have to be cash, we can't do credit for this one) and have fun waging bidding wars throughout the meeting for your favorite items. We'll call time on the bidding about 45 minutes before the meeting ends so the bid winners can pay for and claim their goodies by the end of the meeting.  Again, all the proceeds from the auction will go toward future fun events and programs for our members.

You will need to bring your beading mat, two pairs of beading pliers (chain nose or bent nose and round nose are fine), cutters, and a light and magnifier (if you need them) to complete the self-directed project. Feel free to bring along snacks to share if you'd like.  Don't forget your cash for the auction!
